As a part of our commitment to supporting environmental initiatives and promoting urban sustainability within Libyan cities, the National Organisation for Governance and Local Development Support participated as one of the sponsors of the ‘Soil is Life’ campaign organised by the Scientific Research Authority and Al-Afdal University in Benghazi on Tuesday, 18 November 2025. The campaign extended to include tree planting in a number of schools, educational institutions and mosques, including Al-Diaa School, Al-Orugwan School and Kindergarten, and Al-Siddiq Mosque, as well as other service and community institutions. These efforts aimed to enhance vegetation cover within the city and support initiatives aimed at protecting the soil and improving the quality of the urban environment. The organisation was represented at this event by the President of the General Assembly, Dr. Mohamed Al-Fakhri, who participated in the tree planting alongside the organising teams and volunteers, in a practical demonstration of the organisation's commitment to supporting local efforts and promoting the community's role in protecting the environment. The organisation's sponsorship of this campaign is part of a broader programme aimed at encouraging municipalities, educational institutions and the local community to adopt more sustainable practices and support environmental initiatives that contribute to improving the quality of life in Libyan cities. The organisation believes that building a better urban future starts with simple and effective initiatives, such as planting a tree or supporting a green space, which are small steps that accumulate impact and open the door to a more balanced and prosperous environment.
